If I have past trauma can this therapy cause more harm than good?
No, RTT’s guidance is “do no harm” and this is exactly my ethos at the centre of my practice. I would not agree to do a session or ask you to do anything if I believe it would cause you more harm than good. During the session you will not be reliving past traumatic events you will merely be observing them like viewing them from a far or looking through over old photographs. You do not have to talk about anything that you are not comfortable with, and I would advise that if it is the root cause of your difficulties then to only talk about the feelings and beliefs associated from that event, instead of the details. However most people find that they can talk through the past events and find it cathartic and a huge release for them in doing this and feel much better and lighter after the session. I will be there holding a safe space for you in doing so and will guide and support you throughout the session with patience, compassion and empathy.
Will I remain awake and in control during the session?
Yes absolutely, you will be in full control of yourself throughout the whole session and do not have to go into details of anything that you do not feel comfortable talking about in the session. We can instead talk about the feelings and beliefs associated with a specific event. With guided meditation, I will lead you into a deep relaxed state of concentration like you are when driving or reading a book. You will be awake for the session, although rare some clients can fall asleep at the end as feel very relaxed, if that happens I will gently call their name to awaken them.
